Special Committee Formed to Probe Bhattakufar Building Collapse

Shimla, July 3 — Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap chaired a review meeting on the ongoing four-lane construction work in Shimla. A special committee led by Additional District Magistrate (Law & Order) Pankaj Sharma has been constituted to investigate the recent collapse of a five-storey building in Bhattakufar. The committee will assess the causes, damage, and provide relief recommendations for the affected.

Demarcation of Four-lane Work from Kaithlighat to Dhalli

Another 12-member committee headed by ADM (Protocol) Jyoti Rana will oversee the status of the four-lane construction from Kaithlighat (Shimla boundary) to Dhalli, covering about 27 km. This committee includes stakeholders from the PWD, NHAI, Police, and the construction company. It will verify whether construction is adhering to safety norms and identify vulnerable spots.

NHAI to Submit Safety Report in 2 Days

The DC directed NHAI to submit a comprehensive report within two days on the hazards identified in consultant reports and the company’s mitigation measures. Details of land acquisition and compliance with environmental norms must also be included.

Drone Survey to Identify Risk Zones, Inspection of Dumping Sites Ordered

In response to rising concerns from locals about property risks, drone surveys are being carried out to map danger zones. NHAI and the construction company have been instructed to inspect dumping sites for potential monsoon hazards.

Assessment of Damaged Structures

Around 20 families have been affected. The DC instructed the PWD to assess partially damaged homes for compensation. Families demanded financial aid and rental allowances from the company. Positive action on these demands was emphasized.
