Fortis Mohali Launches Region’s First Advanced Bi-Plane Neuro Cath Lab

1 min read

Shimla, January 22, 2026: Setting a new benchmark in advanced neuro-care, Fortis Hospital Mohali has launched a state-of-the-art Bi-Plane Neuro Cath Lab, a high-end facility designed for precise diagnosis and effective treatment of complex neurovascular conditions including stroke and aneurysm. With this launch, Fortis Mohali becomes the first private hospital in North India (outside Delhi-NCR) to offer such an advanced neuro-intervention infrastructure.

The bi-plane system is equipped with dual X-ray imaging units, enabling simultaneous imaging from two angles (front and lateral). This allows clinicians to generate high-resolution 3D images of the brain and spine, improving accuracy in procedures and significantly reducing treatment time—especially in critical stroke cases where every minute counts.

The facility has been established under the leadership of Dr. (Prof.) Vivek Gupta, Additional Director, Interventional Neuroradiology and Director, Bi-Plane Neuro Cath Lab. Explaining the significance, Dr. Gupta noted that traditional cath labs typically allow imaging in only one plane at a time, which can delay diagnosis and intervention. In contrast, bi-plane imaging enables real-time, dual-angle visualization, helping doctors perform faster and more efficient neuro-interventional procedures.

Dr. Gupta further highlighted that the system can also support CT-like imaging before and after procedures, and its advanced software enables direct transfer of stroke patients from emergency to cath lab for immediate intervention, resulting in valuable time savings and improved patient outcomes.

The new technology is expected to strengthen emergency neuro-care services in the region by enabling minimally invasive treatment for complex neurological conditions with greater speed and precision.
