Former Chief Minister Shanta Kumar stated that the recent incidents in Manipur and Rajasthan, the world’s largest democracies, are extremely shameful. The disappearance of 13 lakh girls and women in the country over three years is equally distressing. He further added that the most shameful aspect is that these incidents have not even been discussed in the parliament of this great democracy.
Videos are going viral, and the entire nation is shedding tears while politicians are engaged in power struggles, tearing apart the fabric of democracy. He emphasized that no one could have imagined that India’s democracy would fall to such depths. Shanta Kumar urged the parliamentarians to rise above party lines and hold in-depth discussions on this grave matter. He suggested the need to amend laws and establish special courts to decide cases of heinous crimes within three months. Stringent punishment, such as capital punishment, should be given for such crimes. Only such severe penalties can erase this stigma from the nation.
