Kangra, September 9, 2025: Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for announcing ₹1500 crore as disaster relief for Himachal Pradesh, which has been ravaged by heavy rains and landslides. Addressing the media, Thakur said that Modi is the first Prime Minister to visit the state during such a calamity and personally review the ground situation.

He emphasized that the Prime Minister not only shared the pain of the affected people but also gave them courage to overcome hardships. “This support will empower us to face even the toughest challenges,” he said. Thakur highlighted the massive losses—42 lives lost in a single night, 41 people still missing, thousands rendered homeless, and large swathes of farmland and orchards destroyed.

Thakur urged the state government to coordinate effectively with the Centre and ensure that every rupee of the relief package is spent on rehabilitation and genuine relief measures for victims. He also appealed to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and the Congress leadership to at least thank the Prime Minister for his timely assistance.

He further stated that the opposition has requested an amendment to the Forest Conservation Act to provide land for rebuilding homes of disaster-hit families, to which the Prime Minister responded positively.
