Food Safety Department Takes Action Against Misleading Chocolate Packaging Ahead of Festive Season
1 min readMandi, Sept 03
In a bid to ensure consumer safety, the Food Safety Department has collected two samples of chocolates from a renowned company that had raised concerns. These samples have been sent to the Kangra lab for testing, and further actions will be taken based on the lab report. Additionally, the department is preparing to issue notices to the relevant shopkeepers.
The issue at hand revolves around chocolates from this company, where the packaging on the larger packets displays a different expiry date compared to the smaller ones contained within. This mismatch in expiry dates has led consumers to inadvertently select expired products, believing otherwise.
Upon receiving multiple complaints of this nature, Sachin Lakhanpal, the FSO, collected samples of the company’s chocolates for examination.
The lab analysis will determine the safety of these samples and investigate any potential health risks associated with the expired smaller chocolates inside. Furthermore, the Food Safety Department in Mandi urges consumers to exercise caution and thoroughly inspect products before purchase. They advise checking for the expiry date on both the outer and inner packaging. If any discrepancies are noticed, consumers are encouraged to report them promptly. The department assures swift action in response to such reports.
Consumers are advised to remain vigilant and refrain from consuming expired items, as they may pose health risks. – LD Thakur, Deputy Commissioner of the Food Safety Department in Mandi
