Food Commission Calls for Improved Hygiene in Shimla Schools

Shimla, September 16 – The State Food Commission, Himachal Pradesh, carried out inspections at Government Primary School, Government Middle School, and the Fair Price Shop in Ruldu Bhatta, Shimla. Commission Chairman Dr. S. P. Katyal reviewed the school cooking areas, food quality, and records to ensure hygiene and compliance with safety norms.
During the visit, interactions were held with children, parents, and Mid-Day Meal workers, where certain shortcomings were identified. Corrective measures were suggested, including improving food quality, ensuring the presence of at least one parent to check meals, maintaining hygiene in cooking, and providing safe drinking water.
Local councillor Saroj Thakur was called to the spot and advised to address garbage dumping and unhygienic conditions near the school. She was also requested to attend School Management Committee meetings to ensure sustained cleanliness and prevent children from exposure to infections.
