First Principal of College of Agriculture Solan remembered

Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, held a meeting to honour the contributions of Late Puran Anand Adlakha, the first principal of the College of Agriculture, Solan.

The meeting was chaired by Vice Chancellor Professor Rajeshwar Singh Chandel and attended by Dr. Sanjeev Chauhan, Director of Research; Dr. Inder Dev, Director of Extension; and Dr. KK Raina, Dean of Students’ Welfare. Also present were Brigadier Anil Kumar Adlakha (Retd.) and Sunita Adlakha, son and daughter-in-law of Puran Anand Adlakha, along with five students who have won various gold medals and awards sponsored in his memory.

Brigadier Adlakha has established a gold medal for the ‘Best Overall Student’ in memory of his father, who was a prominent figure in agriculture and served in reputed universities and institutes in India and Pakistan. Besides being an academician, Puran Anand Adlakha was also a sportsperson. To honour his legacy, the university annually awards the Puran Anand Adlakha Best Sportsperson Award to the best male and female athletes during the Sports and Games Meet. These awards have been given by the university for the past several years.

During the event, students expressed their gratitude to Brigadier Adlakha for instituting these awards, which motivated them to excel in both academics and sports. Brigadier Adlakha thanked the university for honouring his father through these awards and encouraged students to continue their success in sports, bringing laurels to the university and the country. Professor Chandel appreciated the efforts of Brigadier Adlakha for his continued support of meritorious students in the agriculture and horticulture fields and for staying connected with the university where his father served.
