First Principal of College of Agriculture Solan  remembered

Solan, June 29 – A meeting to remember Late Puran Anand Adlakha, the first principal of the College of Agriculture, Solan was held at the Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni and discussions on the various sponsored Gold medals and Awards instituted at the university in the memory of this academician.

The meeting was chaired by Professor Rajeshwar Singh Chandel and all the statutory officers, Heads of Departments of the university attended the meeting along with Brigadier Anil Kumar Adlakha (retd.) and Sunita Adlakha, son and daughter-in-law of Puran Anand Adlakha.

Brig Adlakha has sponsored a gold medal for the ‘Best Overall Student’ in the university in memory of his late father Puran Anand Adlakha, who was a renowned name in the field of agriculture and had served reputed agriculture universities and institutes in India and Pakistan. Besides being an academician, he was also a sportsperson. To honour his legacy, the university is also awarding the Puran Anand Adlakha Best Sportsperson Award which is awarded each year to the best male and female sportsperson during the annual Sports and Games Meet of the university. The gold medal and the Best Sportsperson award have been given by the university for the past few years.

During the interaction, Brig Adhlakha thanked the university for honouring his father through the gold medal award and the Best Sportsperson Award given to students. He also expressed interest in supporting the university in instituting any other fellowship for meritorious students. He also proposed a museum in the name of the first principal of the college charting its history till its development into a university. He also congratulated the university for the NIRF Ranking and the Best Centre for Vegetable Crops award in the country.

Prof Chandel thanked Brig Adlakha for supporting meritorious students in the agriculture and horticulture field and keeping himself associated with the activities of the university where his father served. He said that the university will soon develop a proposal to honour the first principal of the College of Agriculture and how new programmes can be developed by the university for supporting meritorious students.
