In Himachal Pradesh, an FIR has been registered against the news network “The News Radar” following a report by executive editor Sunil Chadha, which critiqued the financial management of the Congress government and analyzed the party’s defeat in the Haryana elections. The complaint, lodged by Shimla resident Sandeep Aukta, alleges that the report aimed to damage the reputation of Congress leaders.

The report noted that top BJP figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have raised concerns about Himachal’s financial crisis during their campaign in Haryana. However, it also presented the Congress perspective, citing Chief Minister Sukhu’s statements that the delays in payments were strategic decisions.

This legal action has sparked debates about media freedom in the state, with critics arguing it poses a threat to journalistic independence. The incident raises important questions about the role of the press and the right to free speech under Article 19(1)(a) of the Indian Constitution.
