FDP programme launched at Shoolini University

The five- day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Redefining Teaching” at Shoolini University was inaugurated by the Chancellor Dr. P.K. Khosla on Monday.

.The theme of the day was “Learning from past and present to prepare for the Future”.

In a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Amar Rao, Dr. Khosla emphasised the need for universities to provide a holistic education as was done in Universities like Taxila in ancient India. He said academics, research opportunities, skill development and most importantly human values should be offered as a package to a student in higher education. Senior Professor and Head of school of Agriculture, Dr. Y.S. Negi talked about the need to educate students to become good citizens rather than just degree holders. Professor Anand Sharma of Central University emphasised the need for bringing in the Indian perspective and said that texts like the Bhagwad Gita should be used to teach students self- awareness and forming of goals. Professor Karm Pal Narwal of Guru Jambeshwar University emphasised the advantages of online learning and how technology provides universities the flexibility and freedom to reach out to more students. Prof Kuldeep Rojhe, Programme Director of MBA at Shoolini University talked about how the generation Z is influenced by technology and are impatiently curious learners who want instant answers. Prof. Manju Jaidka, speaking on what to expect in the future reiterated the need for the students to heal from having spent two years of their academic life in front of screens and said that a system like Rabindranath Tagore’s Shantiniketan, where students study in the open and close to nature could be the panacea for it.

In another session Dr. Shiv K Tripathi of IIHMR university, Jaipur offered tips of creating a responsive curriculum for the future. He said adding an Indian context to learning content was very important. He said that case studies on local businesses might be more relevant for our students than Harvard case studies.

The programme was attended by over 150 teachers from Shoolini University, Shoolini Institute of life sciences and business management (SILB) as well as some other colleges and Universities. A student engagement competition was also announced by the Shoolini University Learning and Development Team, who is conducting this
