Farmers Get Training on Water Conservation, Micro Irrigation

A five-day training programme on water conservation and different types of micro-irrigation was recently organized at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Solan. Training Coordinator Dr. Uday Sharma informed that a group of 30 farmers from Kunihar block was sponsored by the Deputy Director of Horticulture Solan, to participate in the programme.
Dr. Sharma said that the participants were apprised about the various water conservation and micro-irrigation in different fruits and vegetables. Several topics like the role of mulching in fruits and its different types and the construction of low-cost farm ponds, drip irrigation and fertigation, natural farming, protected cultivation of flowers and vegetables with special emphasis on water conservation were also taken up during the training.
Dr. Aarti Shukla, co-coordinator of the training gave a detailed overview on mushroom cultivation and disease management while Harjeet Singh, Deputy Manager IFFCO delivered a talk on the use of new fertilizer material like nano DAP. Dr. JK Chahuan, Head KVK Solan explained the important varieties of stone fruits with low water requirements for low and mid-hills. He also talked about the proper chemical management of field crops. Dr. Seema Thakur and Dr. Rajesh Thakur gave a demonstration on the scientific cultivation of vegetables and flower crops.
The farmers also visited RHRS Mashobra and Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni for demonstration of various technologies like drip irrigation, low-cost water harvesting, farm ponds, hydroponics and mulching.
