Fare Hike Unjust for Common People: Jairam

Shimla, April 5, 2025 – Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition, Jairam Thakur, has strongly criticized the state government’s decision to double the minimum bus fare, calling it an anti-people move that will disproportionately impact poor and middle-class families.
He stated that for many families, public and private buses are the only affordable means of travel. “By doubling the minimum fare, the government is putting an additional monthly burden of at least ₹1000 or more on every household. People are already struggling due to inflation and government failures—this decision is no less than a disaster for the common man,” he said.
Jairam Thakur urged the government to reconsider the decision and accused it of turning a blind eye to the plight of the people. “This anti-poor decision reflects the priorities of a government that has halted all developmental work, shut employment avenues, and is pushing people into financial distress by hiking prices,” he added.
