Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur in a press statement issued from Shimla today said that the Pegasus snooping allegations by the Opposition parties on the Central Government are completely baseless and devoid of facts. The Opposition including the Congress party is trying to mislead the people of the country for their political gains.
He said that the reality is that under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the nation is moving ahead on the path of progress and prosperity and it has been able to make a special identity in the world. In the last few years, the historic and bold decisions taken by the Central Government in the interest of the country and its people have irked the entire Opposition.
The Chief Minister said that in the recent Union Cabinet expantion, women, members of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes have been given a large number of places. It is unfortunate that the Opposition did not even allow the introduction of these members in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, which is also against the traditions. The way Shri Modi is constantly taking the country forward, fulfilling the expectations and aspirations of the people, the Opposition is unable to digest it and is frightened by his popularity.
Jai Ram Thakur said that it cannot be a mere coincidence that on July 18, just a day before the commencement of the Monsoon Session of the Parliament, the media reports came out on Pegasus issue. The matter has been taken up with a well thought out strategy just ahead of the monsoon session as some people consider the country’s development a threat to themselves. While there is not a single evidence in the media reports that the Government of India can be linked in this matter.
He said that the Opposition cannot hamper the pace of development of the country by making unnecessary hue and cry in the House. The people of the country have high hopes from the monsoon session as various important bills related to farmers, youth, women and backward sections of the society are to be discussed.
The Chief Minister said that this type of attitude of the Congress Party against the BJP-ruled Central Government and its attempt to taint the country’s image and democracy is highly condemnable, which we strongly condemn.
He said that NSO Group has issued a statement on the disclosures about its Pegasus software, making it clear that this report is full of misconceptions, there is no factual basis for the report and it is beyond the truth. According to the company, it appears that unidentified sources have provided false information. The Group has also said that the claim that the data leaked from our servers is completely false as no such data was ever on our servers.
Jai Ram Thakur said that the truth is that the Congress party has its own history of phone tapping. During the tenure of the UPA government, many cases came to the fore when phones were tapped and as per the information received from RTI, more than 9000 phones and 500 e-mails were monitored every month during the Congress era.
The Chief Minister said that many Opposition leaders had also accused the UPA government of phone tapping. The then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had also rejected the demand of JPC in this matter. Later he himself admitted that the phones of corporate people have been tapped. Not only this, BJP and Congress party’s own MLA has also recently accused the Congress government of Rajasthan of phone tapping.
Jai Ram Thakur said that the Union Minister of Electronics and IT has also spoken in detail in the Parliament that no such unauthorized interception is done by the government agencies. Even before this, the claims of monitoring apps like WhatsApp have been found to be fake and contrary to facts in the investigation.
He said that the allegations of espionage being made on the Indian government are completely baseless. The BJP government believes in working with complete transparency and upholding democratic values. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the central government will continue its efforts in the direction of development and public welfare of the country and the pace of development of the country will not be affected due to the noise and obstruction of the opposition.
