Ensuring Safe & Healthy Food: Una Admin Cracks Down on Violations

Una, Jan 31: Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal emphasized ensuring the availability of healthy, safe, and hygienic food in the district. Chairing the District Advisory Committee meeting under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, he directed strict enforcement of food safety regulations and consumer awareness initiatives.
As of now, 437 food licenses are active, and 3,155 food business operators are registered under FSSAI. Between May 2024 and January 2025, 209 new licenses were issued, generating ₹13.42 lakh in fees, while 1,050 new businesses were registered, collecting ₹5.45 lakh.
Food safety officials tested 91 samples this year, with 20 found non-compliant, leading to ₹80,000 in fines. During Diwali, 2,080 kg of khoya, 237 kg of paneer, and 12 kg of ghee were seized. A mobile food testing lab examined 100 samples, all meeting safety standards.
The district is promoting food fortification and sustainable food practices, including collecting 3,518 liters of used cooking oil for biodiesel production. The administration is committed to raising public awareness and enforcing strict food safety measures.
