Meeting Held on Effective Implementation of Food Safety & Standards Act

Chamba, March 19 – Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal has directed officials to ensure the effective implementation of the Food Safety and Standards Act in the district. He emphasized that food quality must meet prescribed standards to safeguard public health.

Chairing the District Advisory Committee Meeting, DC Repaswal instructed officials to operationalize the Mobile Food Testing Lab and organize awareness programs to educate stakeholders. He also reviewed various provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act and issued necessary directives.

Assistant Commissioner (Food Safety) Deepak Anand reported that in the 2024-25 financial year, 158 food vendors in the district have been issued food licenses. Additionally, 50 general and 130 surveillance samples have been sent for testing. Inspections have been conducted at 61 food business operator units, including hotels, restaurants, and other food vending establishments.

Furthermore, the hygiene rating audit for 15 food units has been completed. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Vipin Sharma provided insights into various provisions of the Act and delivered the welcome address.
