Chuwari High School Sets Example in Rural Bilaspur

Bilaspur, January 11:
Himachal Pradesh’s push for quality school education is now visibly transforming rural classrooms—where even government schools are offering the kind of facilities once associated only with private institutions. In Ghumarwin subdivision of Bilaspur district, Government High School Chuwari (Gram Panchayat Dakri) has emerged as a strong example of this shift, providing students the option of English-medium education along with modern learning infrastructure.

Equipped with smart classrooms, internet connectivity, a modern library, IT/computer lab and Wi-Fi, the school is enabling rural children to access contemporary education without leaving their villages. The initiative is also easing the financial burden on parents, many of whom earlier opted for private schools due to the English-medium factor—often at high costs.

Parents including Anita, Anu Sharma and Mala Sharma said their children have been studying in the school for the last two to three years and are benefitting from digital learning facilities as well as strong sports and co-curricular infrastructure. They credited the government’s decision for making English-medium education accessible “near home” at minimal expense.

Students such as Trisha, Vaishnavi, Woolnath, Harshit, Alisha, Sandhya, Naveen and Anshul said the English-medium option has significantly improved their confidence. Headmistress Bhavna stated the school operates in digital mode and also motivates students towards English speaking skills and preparation for competitive examinations.

Local MLA and Minister for Town & Country Planning, Housing, Technical Education and Vocational & Industrial Training Rajesh Dharmani said the state has fulfilled a key guarantee by introducing English-medium options in government schools, ensuring children in remote and rural areas receive quality education close to their homes under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
