New York, 25 September: Former Union Minister and Hamirpur MP Anurag Singh Thakur, addressing a US-India Strategic Partnership Forum event on renewable energy in New York, stressed that energy security is a global issue requiring balance between energy, economy, and ecology. He reiterated India’s clear stance that developed nations must cut their carbon emissions by 2050.
Highlighting India’s progress, Thakur said the country has set a target of 500 GW non-fossil capacity by 2030, with current renewable capacity at 227 GW. He underlined India’s leap to the world’s third-largest solar energy producer and noted that more than 50% of India’s installed power capacity now comes from non-fossil sources. Thakur also pointed out that data centers alone could consume 2.6% of India’s total electricity by 2030, making clean and sustainable energy crucial for future growth.
