Election Department Takes Swift Action to Ensure Adherence to Model Code of Conduct

Shimla, March 19, 2024 – In response to directives issued by the Election Commission of India, the Election Department has swiftly initiated actions to enforce the effective implementation of the Model Code of Conduct. Addressing the media today, Chief Electoral Officer Manish Garg emphasized the importance of strict measures against any violations of the code.

Garg stated that within 72 hours of the announcement of the election schedule, all advertisements including hoardings, posters, banners, flags, and wall paintings have been removed as per the guidelines across all districts of the state. Providing district-wise details, he mentioned that in Chamba, 2135 advertisements were removed, while Kangra saw the removal of 11235, and Lahaul-Spiti had 313 advertisements taken down. Similar actions were undertaken in other districts, totaling to 51302 advertisements removed statewide.

Highlighting the department’s commitment to compliance with the Election Commission’s directives, Mr. Garg stressed that stringent actions are being taken to ensure the swift and effective implementation of the Model Code of Conduct. Additionally, measures are being undertaken to uphold standard operating procedures for enhanced vigilance.

The Election Department’s proactive approach underscores its dedication to maintaining the integrity of the electoral process and upholding democratic principles. By promptly addressing violations and enforcing the Model Code of Conduct, the department aims to uphold transparency and fairness in the electoral process.
