Shimla, May 8 – The Ministry of Textiles, in collaboration with the Himachal Pradesh Government, will organize the *EKTA* (Exhibition cum Knowledge Sharing for Textile Advantage) Exhibition from May 19 to 26, 2025. The event aims to promote sustainable livelihoods and highlight Himachal Pradesh’s rich textile traditions including wool, jute, and silk. The exhibition will be held at the historic Gaiety Theatre, Mall Road, Padam Dev Complex, and Ridge.
Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap, in a meeting with Jute Commissioner Malay Chandan Chakravarty of the National Jute Board, Kolkata, said that local groups such as the Khushala Cluster Federation—working in jute products—will be given free stalls to showcase and sell their products. A special training initiative will also be undertaken to help them produce advanced jute-based goods.
From May 19 to 21, special workshops for self-help groups will be conducted at Gaiety Theatre from 11 AM to 5:30 PM, providing knowledge and training on a range of topics.
Jute Commissioner Chakravarty emphasized that the EKTA platform aims to integrate artisans into national and global textile value chains. He said that the Indian government is supporting fiber-based rural entrepreneurship through programs like PM Mitra, Samarth, Silk Samagra, and the National Jute and Handicrafts Development Scheme.
Himachal’s wool, jute, and silk crafts—renowned for their eco-friendly and cultural value—will take center stage. Iconic products like Kullu, Kinnauri, and Chamba shawls, along with innovative jute textiles, will highlight the region’s textile legacy and evolving craftsmanship.
