Efforts being made to increase cooperation between varsity and Forest Department

Solan, Aug 5 – Shri Kehar Singh Khachi, Vice-Chairman of Himachal Pradesh State Forest Development Corporation today visited Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni and interacted with the University Vice Chancellor and scientists. University Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajeshwar Singh Chandel welcomed Shri Khachi and explained the various research activities undertaken by the university in forestry and horticulture.

A field visit to the various research trials being undertaken by the different departments of the College of Forestry was undertaken to showcase the research activities in the forest sector by the university. During the visit, the Vice Chairman visited the advanced research trials on borehole resin extraction method developed by the university. He appreciated the efforts of the university scientists in researching topics that can help to increase the life of forests and add value to forest wealth. A visit to the wood workshop, herbarium, herbal garden, forest products and medicinal plants field where he was apprised of the work being done by the university. He also visited the high-density apple plantations, kiwi block, floral craft lab and floriculture fields.

“He said that the university was doing great work in several aspects of forests and efforts are being made to increase cooperation between the state forest department and the university so that this good work can be implemented in the state forests. Regular dialogue between the university and the forest department will also be increased so the various issues of the forests can be discussed,” said Shri Khachi.

He was accompanied by Divisional Manager Solan and Sirmaur, HP State Forest Development Corporation and other officials of the corporation. Dr Sanjeev Chauhan, Director of Research,  Dr Chaman Thakur, Dr Rajesh Kaushal and scientists from the College of Forestry and Horticulture were also present during the field visit.
