Education Minister Rohit Thakur asserted today that the Himachal Pradesh government remains steadfast in its commitment to the welfare and overall development of all societal sections, despite ongoing efforts by the Opposition BJP to hinder progress. Thakur emphasized that while the opposition should ideally serve as a constructive critic in a healthy democracy, the BJP is instead focused on destabilizing the government through financial means and spreading falsehoods. He noted that the people of Devbhoomi have firmly rejected the BJP’s corrupt practices and monetary influence.

Thakur praised the Congress government under Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s dynamic leadership, which has received decisive mandates in both the 2022 Assembly elections and recent by-elections. Consequently, the Congress now holds 38 seats in the 68-member Assembly, well above the majority mark.

In response to BJP accusations of nepotism, Thakur stated that the Congress has been entrusted with the mandate due to the public’s disillusionment with the BJP’s failures and their trust in Congress guarantees. He added that Chief Minister Sukhu considers the state’s people as his family, which is reflected in welfare initiatives like the Mukhyamantri Sukh-Ashray Yojana, Indira Gandhi Mahila Sukh Sammaan Yojana, Rajiv Gandhi Start-up Yojana, and more.

Thakur highlighted several key achievements of the Congress government, including the reinstatement of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), the introduction of English medium education from class one in state-run schools, the implementation of a per-kilogram apple sale and purchase system, and the introduction of the universal carton system. He also emphasized the government’s commitment to quality education and healthcare services for the benefit of the general public.

Regarding the candidacy of Kamlesh Thakur, the Chief Minister’s wife, from the Dehra assembly constituency in the upcoming by-election, Thakur clarified that the decision was based on multiple surveys indicating her popularity among the people of Dehra. He refuted claims of nepotism, asserting that Chief Minister Sukhu has never leveraged his position to promote family members and has always served the party selflessly. The decision to allot the ticket to Kamlesh Thakur was made by the central leadership without any vested interest from Sukhu, Thakur added.

Thakur criticized the BJP for its unsettled reaction to the Congress’s candidate selection, attributing it to the BJP’s anticipation of defeat in the by-elections for the Dehra, Nalagarh, and Hamirpur seats. He lauded Chief Minister Sukhu as a visionary leader aiming to make Himachal Pradesh a green energy state by 2026 and the most prosperous state by 2032. Thakur urged the BJP to support the state government’s developmental goals instead of engaging in petty politics.

Advising the BJP to respect the people’s mandate, Thakur expressed confidence in the Congress government’s continued success, as evidenced by recent by-election victories in four out of six seats. He predicted a similar outcome for the upcoming by-elections, reaffirming the public’s faith in the Congress government and its guarantees.
