Shimla, Jan 14, 2026 : Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri on Wednesday inspected an electric prototype bus that has arrived for trial ahead of the addition of 297 new electric buses to the HRTC fleet. He suggested certain improvements inside the bus and issued directions to company representatives.
The trial of the prototype bus has been underway since January 8, covering routes including Solan–Arki (via Manju), Solan–Sarahan (via Narag), Shimla–Giripul (via Kufri-Chail), Shimla–Jaynagar (via Shalaghat), and Shimla–Ghadkahan (via Mashobra).
The prototype has the capacity to cover around 180 km with 80% battery. After completion of the trial, HRTC management will submit a detailed report regarding necessary modifications, based on which new buses will be manufactured. The bus has been sent by Hyderabad-based Olectra company, whose electric buses have reportedly been operating in Rohtang for the last ten years.
HRTC MD Dr Nipun Jindal was also present. DC Shimla Devasen Negi said he is personally monitoring the bus trial and the performance has been good.
