Una, February 8: The Himachal Pradesh government’s Dr Yashwant Singh Parmar Student Loan Scheme is emerging as a strong support system for meritorious students facing financial constraints in pursuing higher education.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has emphasised that no talented student in the state should be forced to abandon higher studies due to lack of financial resources. Launched in 2023, the scheme provides education loans of up to ₹20 lakh at a concessional interest rate of just 1 percent.
The loan can be utilised to meet expenses such as tuition fees, hostel charges, food, and other academic requirements. Courses covered under the scheme include medical, pharmacy, nursing, engineering, management, and other professional programmes.
Deputy Director of Higher Education, Una, Anil Kumar, said that the annual family income limit for eligibility has been increased from ₹4 lakh to ₹12 lakh, significantly expanding the scope of the scheme. At present, three students from Una district are availing benefits under the scheme and studying in reputed institutions across the country.
To be eligible, applicants must be permanent residents of Himachal Pradesh, have secured at least 60 percent marks in the previous examination, and be below 28 years of age. The application process is fully digital, simple, and transparent. Application forms can be downloaded from the Deputy Director Higher Education Una website or the Director School Education Shimla website and submitted at the Una office on working days.
Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal said the scheme reflects the government’s student-centric approach and assured that the district administration is committed to ensuring timely and transparent benefits to all eligible students.
