Mahila Vikas Nigam’s BoD approves loan extension upto Rs. three lakh for education

  • Limit for self-employment loan raised to Rs. three lakh

The Board of Directors (BoD) of the Himachal Pradesh Mahila Vikas Nigam has approved the loan extension limit on education loan from existing Rs.75 thousand to Rupees three lakh during its 51st BoD meeting held here today. Approval was also granted for the extension of the limit for employment loan under self-employment scheme from existing  Rupees  one lakh to  Rupees three lakh.

Health and Family Affairs Minister and Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil, while chairing the meeting, said that this substantial increase would attract more women to avail the benefits of the schemes implemented by the Nigam. He emphasized the need for organizing well planned and methodical awareness camps across the state at regular intervals, stating that “this would aid in spreading the awareness and information about the numerous benefits under various schemes being successfully implemented by the Nigam to cater to the needs of financially backward women”.

He added that the Nigam, formed on 10th April, 1989, serves with a prime objective of social and financial upliftment of women without any discrimination. The Nigam offers loans for education at a bare minimum interest of 4 percent and loans for employment at six percent interest rate. Women with family income less than one lakh per annum are eligible for availing benefits under these schemes. The Mahila Vikas Nigam has so far, since its inception, provided loans exceeding Rs. 69.36 crores benefitting 13,551 women. Additionally, interest subsidy of over Rs. 2.64 crores has been granted to the beneficiary women.

The BoD gave approval to various other issues including the proposed action plan of the Nigam for the financial year 2025-26 and balance sheets for the fiscal 2021-22 and 2022-23.
