Shimla, July 3 — A district-level committee meeting for the effective implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap today in Shimla. The meeting discussed the identification of eligible beneficiaries and inter-departmental coordination.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that this scheme is a key initiative to promote solar energy, helping save electricity and protect the environment. He directed departments to ensure timely benefits to eligible individuals and spread awareness among the public.

Under the scheme, a 60% subsidy will be provided for solar systems up to 2 kW capacity and 40% for systems between 2 to 3 kW, with a subsidy limit up to 3 kW. Additionally, an incentive of ₹1,000 will be given for every solar rooftop installed under the panchayat.

₹1 Crore for Model Solar Village

Under the “Model Solar Village” component, one village in each district will be selected. In Shimla, villages like Tyawal, Chhakrel, Nerwa, and Sunda Bhaura are shortlisted, and one will be finalized. The DC instructed departments to conduct awareness camps in these panchayats.

Correct Name on Power Meters

The DC also noted that many electricity meters are still registered under outdated names and urged consumers to update them. Residents can apply for name changes through the official website of the electricity department.

Executive Engineer Tanuj Gupta, other officials, and panchayat representatives were present in the meeting.
