Disaster Management Day Awareness Rally Flags off

Shimla, April 4: The Shimla District Disaster Management Authority organized an awareness rally today to mark Disaster Awareness Day, commemorating the devastating Kangra earthquake of April 4, 1905. Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap flagged off the rally from CTO to Sher-e-Punjab, with schoolchildren marching through Lower Bazaar, raising slogans to educate people about earthquake preparedness and disaster management.

Kashyap highlighted that April 4, 2025, marks the 120th anniversary of the Kangra earthquake, which claimed nearly 20,000 lives and destroyed over 100,000 buildings. The rally aimed to honor the victims while promoting disaster awareness activities.

He emphasized the need for strong disaster management strategies to prevent large-scale destruction in future earthquakes. Additionally, mock drills were conducted in all offices within the Zila Parishad building to enhance preparedness.

SDM (Rural) Kavita Thakur, District Revenue Officer Sanjeet Sharma, and DDMA officials were also present at the event.
