Dialogue is Solution: Shimla Observes International Day Against Drug Abuse

Shimla, 26 June 2025 – On the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, a district-level awareness programme was held at Bachat Bhawan, Shimla, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap.

Addressing students and dignitaries, the DC emphasized the importance of staying away from drugs and promoting awareness about its harmful effects. He urged young minds to maintain open dialogue with their parents and pursue education as a means of empowerment. He reiterated that “dialogue is the key to resolution” in combating addiction.

Students from various schools participated in painting, slogan writing, and speech competitions. Experts, including Dr. Praveen S. Bhatia (IGMC) and DSP Vijay Raghuvanshi, spoke on drug causes, impacts, and prevention strategies. Former addicts Rakesh Sharma and Duni Chand also shared their journeys of recovery.

Winners were felicitated, and a pledge against drug abuse was administered, along with the launch of a signature campaign.

Also present were ADC (Protocol) Jyoti Rana, SDM (Rural) Manjeet Sharma, officials from NGOs, and district officers.

In a related initiative, artists from The Beginners Group, associated with the Department of Information and Public Relations, staged street plays at Modern Nursing College, Annadale, to spread awareness.
