Dharamshala Municipal Corporation Wins National SKOCH Award for Waste Management

Dharamshala, Feb 16: The Dharamshala Municipal Corporation has been honored with the prestigious National SKOCH Award 2024 for its excellence in waste management. Municipal Commissioner Zafar Iqbal received the award at a ceremony in Delhi, where the city’s innovative sanitation technologies were also appreciated.
Commissioner Iqbal credited the achievement to municipal officers, employees, and sanitation workers. He emphasized that the award recognizes exceptional contributions to cleanliness and hygiene, aligning with initiatives like Swachh Bharat Mission.
Dharamshala’s “Clean City – Prosperous City” campaign promotes waste segregation at the source, with efforts to educate residents on separating wet and dry waste. Iqbal stressed the collective responsibility of citizens and the municipal body in waste management, highlighting that a cleaner city will boost tourism and the local economy.
The municipal corporation aims to achieve self-sufficiency in waste management while maintaining Dharamshala’s status as a premier global tourist destination.
