Development Stalled Under Congress Rule: Anurag Thakur
2 min readHimachal Pradesh, July 4, 2024: Former Union Minister and MP from Hamirpur, Anurag Singh Thakur, conducted public meetings and interactions in Nalagarh, Dattowal, Baruna, Baerksha, and Nand to rally support for BJP candidate K.L. Thakur in the Nalagarh Assembly by-election. Thakur also addressed a press conference in Nalagarh.
Anurag Thakur criticized the Congress party, stating, “Whenever Congress comes to power in Himachal Pradesh, development works come to a halt, and illegal encroachments begin to increase. K.L. Thakur brought development projects worth approximately Rs 550 crore to Nalagarh during the BJP’s double-engine government. However, as soon as the Congress government took over, they maliciously stalled these development works. In just 1.5 years, Congress has taken a loan of Rs 25,000 crore, raising the state’s debt burden to Rs 95,000 crore. Congress has given nothing to the state but has shut down health institutions, educational centers, school uniform distribution, and laborer facilities. What is the fault of the public? They claim to have defeated Hindus to form a government but deprive people of basic necessities like electricity, water, and roads.”
He further added, “The Himachal government is ruining its own industries. I negotiated with the Madhya Pradesh government to abolish the entry tax, benefiting each truck by Rs 2500. What has Congress done for the state’s benefit in the past 18 months? They have only deceived the public with false guarantees.”
Anurag Thakur credited the employment of 700,000 people in Nalagarh’s industries to the governments of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Prem Kumar Dhumal. He emphasized that the industrial package granted in 2002 was achieved during their tenure, but subsequent Congress governments hindered its progress. “Congress has always tried to obstruct every development work initiated by the BJP. K.L. Thakur has tirelessly served Nalagarh. I urge the workers to once again ensure the victory of K.L. Thakur with an even larger margin,” he said.
Thakur noted that despite Congress’s extensive efforts in the Lok Sabha elections, the people of Nalagarh gave a lead of over 15,000 votes to the BJP. He criticized the Congress government for increasing petrol and diesel prices twice in six months, adding to the burden of inflation on the public, whereas the Modi government had reduced fuel prices three times.
