Shimla, March 4, 2025 – A one-day district-level workshop of the District Wetland Authority was organized at Savings Bhavan under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap. The workshop was conducted in collaboration with the Himachal Pradesh Council for Science, Technology, and Environment (HIMCOSTE).

Deputy Commissioner Kashyap announced that the demarcation of Tani Jubbar Lake and Chandra Nahan Lake in Shimla district will be completed soon. Additionally, the demarcation process for Barada Lake, Kanasar Lake, and five lakes of Dhar Rupin has also been directed to ensure their conservation. Sub-divisional magistrates and divisional forest officers have been instructed to conduct on-site assessments.

Efforts are underway to preserve wetlands and historical ponds across the district. Under the MGNREGA scheme, the construction of ponds in every panchayat has been mandated, with minimal use of cement to maintain natural restoration. Additionally, regulations will be implemented with community participation to protect natural springs from human interference.

Scientist Ravi Sharma from HIMCOSTE elaborated on the significance of wetlands, emphasizing their role in water conservation, flood control, and ecological balance. Advisor Kunal Bharat from GIZ provided insights into government policies on wetland conservation, while HIMCOSTE senior scientist Rishav Rana shared technical aspects of demarcation.

The workshop was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Verma, SDM Rohru Vijayvardhan, and other officials.
