The Department of Food Supplies and Consumer Affairs in Himachal Pradesh has extended the deadline for e-KYC verification for ration cardholders. Those who were unable to get their e-KYC verification done for any reason can now avail of this service until September 30. Previously, the department had set August 31 as the deadline for e-KYC verification. The department had made it clear that ration cards of those failing to undergo e-KYC verification within the specified period would be discontinued, and they would not receive the benefit of subsidized food items through the public distribution system.
Due to heavy rainfall in many parts of the state since July 10, roads, water, electricity, and internet services have been disrupted. As a result, many consumers were unable to complete their e-KYC verification.
The department has now extended the e-KYC verification deadline to September 30, and it has been emphasized that if e-KYC verification is not completed by that date, the ration card of the concerned consumer will be discontinued. Himachal Pradesh has more than 1.9 million ration cardholders, and e-KYC verification is being carried out to cross-reference information between Aadhar cards and ration cards. Previously, the state had encountered instances of fake ration cards, necessitating the need for e-KYC verification.
