DC Shimla Vows Zero Tolerance for Rights Violations
1 min readShimla, November 22: A district-level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee meeting under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, was chaired by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anupam Kashyap at the Bachat Bhawan.
The meeting reviewed pending cases under the act, with 29 cases still awaiting resolution in court since 2018. Additionally, it was reported that from September 1, 2023, to September 30, 2024, 39 new cases were registered across various police stations, and relief funds ranging from ₹1 lakh to ₹8.25 lakh were disbursed to 34 victims.
DC Kashyap emphasized, “Ensuring justice and safeguarding people’s rights is a priority. Rights violations will not be tolerated, and all investigations should be impartial and completed within the stipulated timeframe.”
The committee also decided to re-investigate 17 cases where cancellation reports were filed by the police. Regular awareness campaigns about the act and its provisions will continue to combat discrimination. The next meeting is scheduled for the third week of December 2024.
Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi assured that all cases under the act are handled based on evidence, with FIRs registered per the law.
