DC Launches Student-Led Anti-Drug Outreach: Each Child to Educate Five Peers

1 min read

Shimla, 4 Dec 2025 — As part of the state government’s Chitta Mukt Himachal campaign, a special awareness workshop was held at Government Degree College Sunni, where Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap urged students to take a frontline role in the fight against drug abuse.

Addressing the gathering, the DC said the rise in chitta cases over the past decade is alarming, threatening the health and future of the youth. He highlighted strong police action under Mission Bharosa, which has led to the arrest of several major interstate drug traffickers.

Kashyap announced a unique youth-driven pledge: every student must educate five other children about the dangers of drugs. He encouraged students to channel their energy into academics and sports, remain vigilant, and immediately report drug-related activity — noting that the government has also introduced a reward system for providing actionable information.

“Do not let drugs shape your future. You are the architects of your own life,” the DC told students, emphasizing that the campaign is gaining strength as schools, colleges, and officials mobilize at the grassroots level.

Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi also addressed the students, warning that drug abuse destroys careers, families, and dignity. He urged youth to avoid misinformation on social media and remain committed to a drug-free lifestyle.

Additional District Magistrate Protocol Jyoti Rana raised concern over increasing deaths from drug overdoses, adding that youth are being driven into crime and exploitation to sustain addiction.

The event was attended by SDM Sunni Rajesh Verma, Principal Dharmendra, faculty members, and students.
