DC Gandharva Rathod Calls for Stronger Road Safety Measures in Hamirpur

Hamirpur, Jab 28, 2026: Deputy Commissioner Gandharva Rathod directed departments including PWD, National Highway Authority, Police and Transport Department to take effective steps to prevent road accidents and reduce fatalities across the district. Chairing the District Road Safety Committee meeting, he stressed strict enforcement of traffic rules along with public awareness.

He said that 67 road accidents were reported in 2025 compared to 84 in 2024, indicating improvement but highlighting the need for further efforts. He instructed officials to ensure proper speed limit signboards, speed breakers, zebra crossings, road markings, traffic diversion signs and parking regulations on highways and major roads.

The DC also directed immediate repair and improvement of accident-prone spots and installation of direction boards for bypass routes towards Shimla, Chandigarh, Kangra and Palampur.

Referring to the Rahveer (Good Samaritan) Scheme, Rathod said seven people in the district have already been honoured for helping accident victims. He informed that injured persons can now receive cashless treatment up to ₹1.5 lakh under Ayushman Bharat empanelled hospitals and stressed timely data uploading with proper training for health staff and doctors.

He further asked all departments to plan effective utilisation of funds allocated for road safety and awareness activities.
