CRPF Jawans Get Horticulture Tips

Solan, Aug 30 – A two-day training cum exposure visit for CRPF jawans attending Gardeners Training at TOT School, Dharampur was organised by the Directorate of Extension Education, Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni.

Training Coordinator and Joint Director (Training) Dr. Anil Sood informed that the jawans were given practical training on the cultivation of fruits, medicinal plants, floriculture, mushroom production and plant protection. During the training, Dr. Gopal Singh apprised the trainees of the selection of site, preparation of pits and other aspects of fruit production and kiwi plantation. Dr. Meena Thakur and Dr. Mangla Ram told them about the handling of honeybees while Dr. Rakesh Sharma shed light on the identification and management of insect pests in fruits and vegetables. The participants were given practical knowledge about compost formation and mushroom production by Arun Chaudhary. Dr. Anshu Sharma conducted a visit of the trainees to the food science lab and explained about the processing and value addition of fruits and vegetables while Dr. Reshma Negi conducted a visit to the horticulture farm and told about various flower crops and their management. Dr. Meenu Sood, Professor and Head, Department of forest products apprised about the identification and uses of different medicinal and aromatic plants while Dr. Anil Sood elaborated on the safe handling of pesticides and insecticides.

During the valedictory session, Director of Extension Education Dr. Divender Gupta advised the trainees to disseminate knowledge learned during the training and apprised them about the recent activities of the university. Deputy Commandant Sohan Singh and Inspector Anil Jamwal of TOT Dharampur thanked the University for accepting their request to conduct training and providing hands-on experience to the jawans.
