1 min read

Shimla Jan 03, 2026 : Former Union Minister and Hamirpur MP Anurag Singh Thakur expressed serious concern over the rising crime rate in Himachal Pradesh, alleging that the failure of the Congress government has emboldened criminals and turned Devbhoomi into a “crime land.” He said violent incidents and growing public insecurity reflect a complete breakdown of law and order in the state.

Citing official data, Thakur claimed that overall crime cases increased from 16,393 in 2024 to 17,385 in 2025. Drug-related cases reportedly rose by nearly 28 percent, while rape cases increased by over 19 percent and kidnapping cases by about 17.7 percent. He alleged that mafias are operating fearlessly and the government has failed to curb criminal activities.

Referring to the recent death of a college student in Dharamshala, Thakur expressed condolences to the bereaved family and demanded a high-level, impartial investigation along with strict action against those responsible.
