Shimla,Jan 02, 2026: Communist Party of India (Marxist) expressed deep grief over the death of 19-year-old college student Pallavi in Dharamshala and conveyed condolences to her bereaved family. A party delegation met the Director General of Police, Himachal Pradesh, in Shimla and submitted a memorandum demanding an impartial investigation by a senior officer into the case.
The delegation, led by state secretary Sanjay Chauhan, raised concerns over alleged harassment, ragging, and possible caste-based discrimination, as the student belonged to the Scheduled Caste community. The party also questioned the delay in police action, stating that despite the incident reportedly occurring in September, an FIR was registered only in January.
CPI(M) urged the government to take strict steps to curb crimes against women and Dalits and ensure accountability. The DGP assured the delegation that the matter would be thoroughly investigated under the supervision of a Deputy Superintendent of Police. The party said it would continue its efforts to secure justice for the family and warned of a statewide protest if appropriate action is not taken.
