CPI(M) Criticizes BJP’s Opposition to Women’s Honor Fund

2 min read

A delegation of the Himachal Pradesh State Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) met with Mr. Manish Garg, the Chief Electoral Officer of the state, and criticized the state government’s decision to continue the distribution of the honor amount of Rs. 1500 for women during the Lok Sabha elections. The delegation included party members such as Sanjay Chauhan, Dr. Kuldeep Singh Tanwar, Vijender Mehra, Jagat Ram, Falma Chauhan, Jagmohan Thakur, party leader Balak Ram, Sonia Sabarwal, Kapil Sharma, Navin Kumar, Ankit Dubey, and Sunil Vashisht.

A press conference was also organized in Shimla on this issue. Party leaders Sanjay Chauhan, Dr. Kuldeep Singh Tanwar, Vijender Mehra, Jagat Ram, and Falma Chauhan demanded that the state government should continue the scheme to provide Rs. 1500 to women during the elections. They argued that the announcement of the scheme was made in Lahaul Spiti district a few months ago, and women have been receiving the honor amount under this scheme even before the announcement of the elections. The notification to implement this scheme across the state was issued before the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections, and thousands of women in the state have already filled the forms for this scheme. Therefore, the demand of the BJP to stop the implementation of this scheme during the elections is absurd and reflects their anti-women stance. The BJP is unable to accept women’s economic empowerment. This exposes the true intentions of the BJP during the elections. While the Prime Minister of the country, Narendra Modi, is making false and emotional slogans about women empowerment, the BJP in Himachal Pradesh is opposing the financial assistance of Rs. 1500 for women. When this scheme was not implemented, the BJP used to criticize the government every day, alleging that the present government is neglecting its guarantees and not giving Rs. 1500 to women. However, when the government implemented this scheme, the BJP opposed it and started finding various excuses to prevent its implementation. Criticizing the BJP’s demand to stop this scheme during the Lok Sabha elections, the CPI(M) has exposed the BJP’s real agenda. It would be a grave injustice to deny this amount to women, which holds great significance in their daily lives. Denying this to women would be a gross injustice. In Himachal Pradesh, women are mainly involved in agriculture, which is currently facing severe crises. In addition, the participation of women in the MNREGA scheme is very limited, providing them with very few employment opportunities. Their participation in the service sector is also very low. Employment of women in industries is negligible. More than fifty percent of women in the state suffer from anemia and are socially weak. The economic and social status of women in the state is quite weak. The amount of Rs. 1500 holds great importance in their daily lives. Denying it would be a severe injustice to these women.
