Shimla, 3 September – The Communist Party of India (Marxist) state committee has expressed deep concern over the severe damage caused by continuous heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh. The party urged all residents to remain calm and work with courage during this crisis. It also appealed to political parties, social organizations, and the state government to coordinate disaster relief efforts and requested the Chief Minister to convene an immediate all-party meeting.

The CPI(M) highlighted the extensive losses caused by the disaster, including over ₹3,500 crore in government assets and total estimated damages exceeding ₹15,000 crore. So far, 368 people have lost their lives, 41 remain missing, over 14,000 houses have been damaged, and nearly 65,000 livestock perished. Agriculture and horticulture sectors have suffered losses of around ₹1,700 crore, and the ongoing apple season, worth approximately ₹6,000 crore, is at risk due to damaged roads and disrupted transport.

The party demanded that the central government declare the state a national disaster zone and release at least ₹5,000 crore for immediate relief and rehabilitation. It also urged the government to implement the Mandi Intervention Scheme (MIS) for apple procurement at fixed rates and form a task force under the Chief Secretary to coordinate relief efforts on the ground. CPI(M) state committees have been instructed to assist affected families locally.
