Shimla, January 11- Here is some good news for three lakh state Employees and about 1.80 beneficiaries of NPS, the countdown has started for the resumption old Pension Scheme with the meeting of the newly inducted council of ministers.
The Sukhwinder Singh government decided to swallow bitter pills by giving a waiver for Old Pension Scheme. Çabinet Minister Harshvardhan Chauhan told a media person here today that the first cabinet meeting was scheduled on January 13. Harshvardhan Chauhan, minister without portfolio in the Sukhu government, made this claim in a conversation with the media today.
Harshvardhan Chouhan said that the Jairam government’s bankrupt state by indulging in unproductive expenditures now inherited an empty state coffer to the Congress government. He said that the Sukhu government would fulfill the promise to the Employees. Harshvardhan Chouhan said that in the very first meeting of the cabinet, the seal will be put on the matter of OPS. The Finance Department has prepared a complete blueprint and two-three options have been suggested. After brainstorming on these in the cabinet meeting, a decision would be taken and OPS will be restored.
He further added that this will not put much financial burden on the state. Since 2003, there are only 23 thousand employees who have retired. Regarding the portfolio allocation, Harshvardhan Chouhan said that perhaps the portfolios will be divided today. He said that the Jairam government had opened thousands of institutions, if the government had run them, the state government would have spent five thousand crores annually, so they had to be de-notified.
