Mandi, September 16 – Tension and outrage have gripped the Pasal Panchayat of Jogindernagar in the Jogindernagar sub-district of Mandi, following the untimely death of a 9-year-old child. The Nainihal faction has placed the blame squarely on the child’s father, sparking a heated controversy. The final rites of the deceased child have not been performed yet, and police forces have been deployed to the area to maintain order.
The villagers have blocked National Highway (NH) near Chaunta, protesting the incident. Initially, in a bid to perform the last rites, angry locals attempted to conduct the funeral in the courtyard of their home, but the police intervened and prevented them from doing so.
Reportedly, the 9-year-old from Pasal Panchayat was undergoing treatment at the PGI (Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research) in Chandigarh when she succumbed to her ailment. It is worth noting that the child’s mother had passed away just a month ago. The sudden deterioration of the child’s health led to her admission to a nearby hospital. Seeing the critical condition of the child, doctors referred her to PGI Chandigarh. After the child’s unfortunate demise during treatment, her family alerted the Jogindernagar police.
Following this, the police took charge of the situation and conducted a post-mortem examination at PGI Chandigarh. While preparations for the final rites were underway at Pasal Panchayat on Saturday under police supervision, villagers and the Nainihal faction initiated a commotion, accusing the father of plotting the murder of his wife and daughter.
In response to the escalating tension, additional police forces were deployed to quell the situation. DSP Padhar, Sanjeev Sood, confirmed the incident and stated that a comprehensive understanding of the case would only be possible after the post-mortem report is available. For now, the last rites of the child will proceed under police supervision.
