“Contractors Controlling Transfers Is Not System Reform”: Jai Ram Thakur Targets Sukhu Govt

2 min read

Shimla, December 19, 2025:
Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur launched a fierce attack on the Sukhu government, alleging a contractor-driven transfer system, corruption in solar projects, and governance collapse. Referring to the controversial Pekhubela solar project, he said the state appears to be heading towards “Pekhubela Part 2,” where government decisions and officers’ transfers are allegedly being dictated by contractors instead of public interest.

Thakur said officers who resist contractor pressure are being transferred overnight, while those who fail to receive pending payments are left helpless. He questioned why contractors can directly write to the Chief Minister demanding action against officials—and why transfers follow immediately. He claimed the state is witnessing “a complete breakdown of moral governance,” charging the government with protecting corruption and punishing accountability.

He welcomed the High Court order quashing the transfer of a Dharamshala project officer who had issued notices to a contractor for delay, and said the verdict exposed how deeply transfers are being manipulated. The former CM compared the situation to the Pekhubela tragedy, alleging that similar pressure tactics contributed to the death of a senior engineer at the time.

Thakur further alleged that the contractor lobby is now split into two camps—those begging for overdue payments, and those influencing transfers through political connections. He said the government is using administrative machinery to target BJP lawmakers, while allowing corrupt elements to thrive.

Separately, a delegation from the Central Hatti Committee Giri Par met Thakur to express concern over delays in court proceedings related to tribal status for the Hatti community. They urged him to raise the issue with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to ensure speedy resolution. Thakur assured full support.

In another statement, Thakur welcomed the passage of the **BV-जी राम जी Bill** in both Houses of Parliament, calling it a historic step that strengthens transparency, good governance, and citizen rights.
