Constitutional Crisis Brewing in Himachal, Says BJP’s Randhir Sharma

1 min read

Shimla, October 10 — BJP State Media In-charge and MLA Randhir Sharma accused the Congress government of undermining democratic principles by attempting to postpone Panchayati Raj and urban local body elections. Addressing a press conference, Sharma said that the government has misused administrative machinery by obtaining letters from district commissioners citing post-disaster conditions to justify the deferment of elections.

He alleged that the Disaster Management Cell hastily issued orders to suspend elections, only for ministers to later claim that polls would be held on time — creating confusion and constitutional uncertainty. Sharma further stated that the Congress government had previously delayed municipal elections and extended the tenure of new urban bodies through ordinances and amendments, violating established democratic norms.

The BJP has demanded clarity from the government and accused it of deliberately attempting to evade elections out of fear of defeat.
