Congress to fight for Himachal’s right over Chandigarh: DY CM
2 min readUna, July 2 – Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri on Sunday said the Congress was all set to seek the state’s claim on Chandigarh as per the Punjab Reorganization Act.
”We have no objection to Punjab asserting its right over Chandigarh, but when Chandigarh was formed, it was said that 7.19 percent of it belongs to Himachal. We will take this right,” Agnihotri said.
Agnihotri said the lease of the Shanan project was about to expire, so it has to be shifted to Himachal.
“We will fight every possible battle to claim the rights of the state. For this, a cabinet committee has been formed under the leadership of senior minister Chandra Kumar. This committee will submit its report and after that, we will take further action,” he said in a statement.
He exuded optimism that he was poised to win all four Lok Sabha seats in the state in the coming Lok Sabha elections and form its government at the center with the help and support of the people.
Agnihotri said the people of the state will vote in favor of the Congress because his party works for the people and takes decisions in their interest.
State Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu will take a decision on the expansion of the cabinet at the appropriate time, he said, claiming that there was unanimity in the party.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the state government is taking up the issues that Himachal has with the neighboring states because it wants to seriously solve issues that have not been resolved for many years.
The Deputy CM said: “We want to increase our economic resources, so water cess has been imposed. Many companies are ready to give; we are ready to negotiate with the companies. The Centre has abolished the condition of NOC for Himachal to lift water from BBMB. This is a good decision. Now we can use our water for our use”.
