Congress Thanks Voters for By-Election Victory and Criticizes BJP’s Tactics
2 min readShimla, July 16, 2024- Senior Congress leader and Vice President Naresh Chauhan expressed gratitude to the vigilant voters and the public for Congress’s impressive victory in the recent by-elections, where the party secured six out of nine assembly seats.
During a press conference in Shimla, Chauhan highlighted the clear message sent by the electorate to the BJP, emphasizing that any conspiracies to topple the democratically elected government would not succeed. He praised the public for their strong stance against such political maneuvers, affirming that respect for the democratic mandate is paramount.
Chauhan expressed appreciation towards Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur, noting that Thakur did not provide a new date for the government’s fall following the election results. Chauhan hopes that Thakur will learn from the by-election defeat and adopt a more constructive role as the opposition leader.
He also commented on BJP MLA Sudhir Sharma’s enthusiasm, pointing out Sharma’s meetings with national BJP leaders in Delhi, which seem to sideline the state BJP leadership. Chauhan indicated that the by-election results increased Congress’s strength to 40 MLAs, while the BJP’s efforts to topple the government were thwarted by the public’s verdict in favor of Congress.
Chauhan criticized BJP’s internal leadership conflicts and their failure to respect the electorate’s decision, which initially elected 40 Congress MLAs in 2022. He further mentioned that BJP’s strategies led to the emergence of six “Agniveer” MLAs within the party.
Finally, Chauhan assured that Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu is actively advocating for Himachal Pradesh’s interests with the Prime Minister and other ministers to secure financial aid. He reiterated that the Sukhu government is dedicated to development and will strive to advance the state in all sectors, backed by strong public support and affection.
