Completion of training programme on “Value addition and Marketing of NTFPs (Animal origin): Wild Beekeeping & Processing”

Shimla, April 08 The HP ENVIS Hub at Himachal Pradesh Council for Science, Technology & Environment (HIMCOSTE) has conducted a training programme on Certificate Course on “Value addition and Marketing of NTFPs (Animal origin): Wild Beekeeping & Processing” under Green Skill Development Programme (GSDP) in line with the Skill India Mission of Govt. of India in the Environment and Forest sector to enable youth to get gainful employment/ self-employment.
The training programme was conducted from 21st March to 8th April, 2022. Fifteen candidates were trained under this programme. During the course the trainees were taken to various exposure/ field visits to institutes, research and universities of Himachal Pradesh. Some of these are: Horticulture Department, Shimla, Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Solan, CSK Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University, Palampur, Bee Research Centre, Nagrota, Kangra, Bee Farm, Chetru, Kangra, G.B. Pant National Research Institute of Himalayan Environment and Sustainable Development, Kullu and Deen Dayal Bee Farm, Kararsu, Kullu. During these visits, the trainees were exposed to the various aspects of beekeeping. Hands on training and demonstration about bee handling and management, colony organization types and uses of beekeeping equipment’s and technique of honey extraction at the apiary was imparted to the trainees. Trainees were also interacted with the successful beekeepers during the exposure/ field visits.
The valedictory function of this training program was held on 8th April, 2022 at Himachal Pradesh Council of Science, Technology and Environment, Shimla under the chairmanship of Shri Satpal Dhiman, Joint Member Secretary, HIMCOSTE. The Joint Member Secretary apprised that the purpose of this program was to promote sustainable methods of wild beekeeping. He also informed that how beekeeping can be an important occupation for individuals, honey collectors, farmers, unemployed youth and women. Dr. Gian Singh Verma, Deputy Director cum Senior Marketing Officer, Department of Horticulture, Govt. of HP graced the function as chief guest. Smt. Priyanka Sharma, Incharge ENVIS gave the overview of this training programme. Sh. Satpal Dhiman, Joint Member Secretary, HIMCOSTE awarded the certificates and mementoes for completion of the training programme to the trainees. Dr. S. P. Bhardwaj, Retd., Associate Director, Regional Fruit Research Centre, UHF, Nauni, Solan and Members of ENVIS Hub Mr. Ajay Panwar, Dr. Ritvik Chauhan, Mrs. Vandana Sharma and Mrs. Jai Priya were also present during the programme.
