College of Horticulture Crowned Overall Champions

The College of Horticulture was declared the overall winner of the inaugural University Employee Sports, Games and Cultural Meet at Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni. Five teams, composed of university staff from various research stations, Krishi Vigyan Kendras and colleges are taking part in the event. The teams included-College of Horticulture and the College of Forestry from the main campus, as well as teams from colleges at Neri, Thunag and the Administrative Block.

Over two exciting days, participants competed in a range of athletic events such as 100, 200, and 400-meter races, long jump, javelin throw and tug-of-war, alongside badminton, table tennis, chess, kabaddi, volleyball and cricket matches for both men and women. Cultural events took place in the Dr. LS Negi auditorium, showcasing solo and group dance and song performances. Overall winners were determined based on points accumulated across all competitions. Dr. Sanjeev Chauhan, Director of Research, was the Chief Guest at the closing ceremony.

Results Overview:

In the solo song category, Dr. Kiran’s moving performance of a Himachali folk song earned her first place. She represented the Administrative Block. Dr. Neelam from Horticulture and Dr. Shivani from Thunag secured second and third places, respectively. In the Group Song category, the Forestry College took first, followed by Horticulture and the Administrative Block. The Administrative Block triumphed in the Folk Group Dance, with Neri and Thunag finishing second and third. In women’s kabaddi, Horticulture defeated Thunag to claim victory. In men’s volleyball, Forestry emerged victorious over Neri, while Horticulture won the women’s final against Neri. In cricket, Horticulture won against the Administrative Block in the men’s category, while Thunag took the women’s title against Horticulture. Horticulture also excelled in badminton, winning both men’s and women’s competitions against Neri and Forestry, respectively. Neri claimed victory in men’s table tennis, defeating Horticulture, while Horticulture won the women’s category against Forestry. In chess, Neri secured the men’s title over Thunag, while Thunag won the women’s match against Neri. In tug-of-war, the Administrative Block defeated Forestry, while Thunag emerged victorious in the women’s category.

In athletics, Vikas from Forestry won the men’s long jump, with Pranjal and Lucky from the Administrative Block taking second and third. Dr. Neha from Thunag won the women’s long jump, with Anjali from Horticulture and Dr. Reena from Neri finished second and third. In javelin throw, Dr. Praveen from Forestry placed first, followed by Dr. Rajeev from Thunag and Dr. RK Dhaka from Neri. In the women’s category, Rekha from Forestry took first, with Anjali from Horticulture and Priya from the Administrative Block in second and third.

In the 200-meter races, Pranjay and Rajat from the Administrative Block took first and second, with Dr. RK Dhaka from Neri in third. In the women’s 200 meters, Dr. Nisha and Rekha from Forestry finished first and second, while Nisha from the Administrative Block came third. In the 400-meter races, Lucky and Pranjal from the Administrative Block secured first and second, with Dr. RK Dhaka from Neri taking third. Deepika from Thunag won the women’s 400 meters, with Dr. Nisha from Forestry and Deepika from Thunag finishing second and third. The event showcased remarkable talent and camaraderie among university staff, culminating in a celebration of athleticism and culture.
