CM Sukhu Urges Nalagarh Voters to Support Congress Candidate Hardeep Baba

2 min read

Nalagarh, July 1, 2024 – Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu lambasted former Independent MLA KL Thakur during a campaign rally for Congress candidate Hardeep Baba in Nalagarh. He accused Thakur of betraying the Congress government and selling out to the BJP.

Highlighting Thakur’s dubious activities, Sukhu claimed that Nalagarh would be remembered for Thakur’s unprecedented move of resigning as an Independent MLA only to run for the same position again under the BJP banner. He described Thakur as a greedy businessman who, despite benefiting from the Congress government for 14 months, switched allegiance for personal gain. Sukhu asserted that BJP’s genuine workers are disappointed by the party’s decision to field Thakur.

In his speech at Kirpalpur, Ramshahar, Nand, Swarghat, and Gurukund, the Chief Minister accused BJP of fostering a “political market” where even Congress MLAs had previously betrayed their party during the Rajya Sabha elections by voting for the BJP. He recalled how six Congress MLAs were subsequently disqualified, leading to by-elections in which four of them faced severe public backlash.

Sukhu further criticized the BJP government for its failures during its five-year tenure, specifically pointing out the corruption in the Himachal Pradesh Subordinate Selection Board under former CM Jairam Thakur. He lauded his administration’s efforts to combat corruption, which, he claimed, had caused discomfort among the disqualified Congress MLAs and the three Independent MLAs.

Sukhu urged Nalagarh voters to elect Hardeep Baba to transform the constituency, emphasizing that the by-election was forced upon the people by the BJP. He accused the BJP of pressuring Thakur to resign after he sold his integrity, and appealed to BJP workers to support Congress, arguing that the election was not between Congress and BJP but between the public and a sold-out MLA.

Hardeep Baba, the Congress candidate, echoed Sukhu’s sentiments, stating that the people of Nalagarh feel ashamed due to their MLA’s actions. He promised dedicated service and urged voters to seize this opportunity to elect a Congress representative to bring about real change.

During the rallies, several BJP workers defected to Congress, welcomed by Sukhu, who assured them of respect and recognition within the party.
