CM Sukhu Celebrates Diwali with Children and Women at Shelter Homes

Shimla, October 20, 2025 — Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu celebrated Diwali with the children of Balika Ashram near Shimla and women residing at Nari Seva Sadan, Mashobra. He distributed sweets and gifts, extending warm wishes for their happiness and bright future.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the state government launched the Mukhyamantri Sukh-Ashraya Yojana to ensure education and care for orphaned children until the age of 27. He emphasized that the initiative is not charity but the government’s responsibility as a guardian. Under this scheme, the state bears all educational, hostel, and clothing expenses, along with a monthly allowance of ₹4,000.
CM Sukhu added that the children are being given opportunities for educational tours to broaden their exposure and confidence. The government has also made provisions for ₹2 lakh in financial assistance for their marriage and ₹3 lakh for house construction where land is available.
Cultural performances by the girls added festive cheer to the celebration. Mayor Surender Chauhan, Chief Minister’s Principal Media Advisor Naresh Chauhan, Women and Child Development Director Pankaj Lalit, and DC Anupam Kashyap were also present.
