Shimla, September 28 – The Chief Minister Sukh Ashray Yojana, launched in 2023 by Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has emerged as a ray of hope for thousands of orphaned, semi-orphaned and destitute children and women across Himachal Pradesh.
Under this sensitive initiative, more than 4,100 children have been adopted as ‘Children of the State’, with the government taking full responsibility for their upbringing and education. Beneficiaries receive monthly financial assistance ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹4,000 depending on their age, along with full support for higher education, hostel fees, start-ups, marriage, and even home construction.
Between 2023 and 2026, the government has already spent over ₹41 crore on the welfare of children under the scheme, including ₹4.08 crore for housing assistance benefiting 390 individuals. In Shimla district alone, 19 families have received home construction support.
Stories like that of Nitin from Rampur, who built a home with financial aid after losing both parents, and Shivani from Nankhari, who fulfilled her dream of having a house after her parents’ demise, reflect how the scheme is bringing dignity and self-reliance.
Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap said, “The CM Sukh Ashray Yojana is not just financial aid, but a remarkable step towards ensuring a safe and dignified life for the underprivileged.”
